The ceramics workshop of Giannitsa’s Creative Art Centre for People With Disabilities (Kdap Mea D.I.K.E.P.A Pellas) is taking part in the international Matres Week Earth 2021 in Italy.
D.I.K.E.P.A .P ceramic workshop in the historical municipality of Pella is the only on-site workshop found in Giannitsa’s Open Theatre. The instructor, Aggeliki Papadopoulou, is a talented creator with plenty of teaching experience. Ms. Papadopoulou has helped the centre’s youth develop an experiential relationship with clay, allowing students to express themselves in various creative ways. They’ve also taken part in innovative ceramic events in the context of integration and interaction with society—both in Greece and abroad.
On the 15th and 16th of May, after a three-month preparation, the ceramics workshop of Giannitsa’s Kdap Mea D.I.K.E.P.A will participate in Matres Week Earth.
Matres Week Earth began in 2019 in Italy. The event is organised every year by Associazione Pandora, a Ceramists Union whose goal is to promote ceramic art. The union has created a large network of ceramists from all around the world. Its members are especially aware of issues that concern women and the protection of the environment.
In this year’s events, which will take place during the weekend of May 15-16th, Matres Week Earth welcomes participants from Italy, Croatia, Sweden, Brazil, and Greece. Lead by our workshop, the Greek participation is divided into two exhibitions.
- The first one will take place in Faenza, titled ‘Spring returns forever,’ a ceramic installation of 400 vases created by ceramists from all around the world.
- Proposed by our workshop, the second exhibition takes place in Greece, titled “Precious Earth.” This project includes the creation of a hundred spherical vases by the workshop’s youth at Giannitsa’s Open Theatre. These vases will then shaped into a snail, the global symbol for the eternal evolution of life.
Speaking about the workshop’s proposed exhibition, Ms. Papadopoulou notes that this Precious Earth is the earth that feeds us, moves us, and inspires us with her beauty. And it’s precious because Pella’s history and archaeological museum constitute a treasure trove of knowledge, creation, and inspiration. It’s precious because it can transform in our hands, exercising the body and feeding the soul. This procedure has helped us understand that we can overcome our personal struggles. As a team, we find the strength to come together and share our experience with people from different countries—a message of love, peace, and creative joy.

Η θεματική έκθεση «ΜΕΛΑΝΑ», μετά από αλλεπάλληλες περιπέτειες ενός μελανού έτους, ανοίγει τις πύλες της και παρουσιάζεται και στις δύο αίθουσες της Ελληνοαμερικανικής Ένωσης, προβάλλοντας το έργο σημαντικών Ελλήνων κεραμιστών σε ιδανικό μαύρο βάθος με επιτόπιο φωτισμό, προτείνοντας συναρπαστικές οπτικές νησίδες και ενθαρρύνοντας παράλληλους δυναμικούς διαλόγους μεταξύ χαρισματικών δημιουργών με κοινή αγάπη και βαθιά γνώση για το χώμα και τη φωτιά αλλά και με σπουδαίο ατομικό αισθητικό ένστικτο. Η έκθεση υφαίνει ως συνεκτικό της ιστό μια πολυσχιδή αισθητική και πολυτονική ανάγνωση της ύλης και της φόρμας: το μαύρο χρώμα του κεραμικού έργου, με τις πολλές και λεπταίσθητες υφές και χροιές του χρωστήρα που αποκτά διαφορετικές ποιότητες και διαβαθμίσεις του μαύρου χρώματος με την επιλογή του είδους πηλού, του τρόπου και των βαθμών ψησίματος, των χρησιμοποιούμενων οξειδίων και του είδους του υαλώματος, αποτελεί ένα οργανικό πεδίο αλχημικής και γλυπτικής έκφρασης που συγκινεί και τέρπει το βλέμμα χάρη στις ανεξάντλητες δυνατότητες του. Με έμμεσες αναφορές στα ανεικονικά προϊστορικά αγγεία, στα μελαμβαφή και τα μελανόμορφα ελληνικά αγγεία των αρχαϊκών και πρώιμων κλασικών χρόνων ή στο ελάχιστο δέμας των οστράκων που συντέλεσαν κάποτε σε δίκαιους και άδικους εξοστρακισμούς, αλλά ακόμη, στη στιλπνή επιφάνεια των κεραμικών ποιημάτων της Κίνας και της Ιαπωνίας και στα βήματα των αισθητικών κατευθύνσεων και των τεχνικών κατακτήσεων της μοντερνιστικής και της σύγχρονης διεθνούς κεραμικής τέχνης, με επίπονη σταθερή προσήλωση μα και με ευπρόσδεκτες δόσεις γενναίας ανατροπής και τρυφερού χιούμορ, οι συμμετέχοντες στην έκθεση «ΜΕΛΑΝΑ», εκπροσωπώντας τον ανθό των σύγχρονων Ελλήνων δημιουργών που χρησιμοποιούν ως πρώτη ύλη τον πηλό, αποδεικνύουν και υπογραμμίζουν τη δυνατότητα της κεραμικής να είναι Μεγάλη Τέχνη.
